Considered one of the most dramatic operations in US Coast Guard History, the remarkable rescue of the Mirlo conducted by the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station on August 16th 1918 will be celebrating its 100th year anniversary. The Life-Saving station will be hosting a week-long celebration starting on August 13th with local events including art shows, special speakers, guided tours, and more!

6pm: Artists & Buyers Opening Reception
Collection of cedar shakes salvaged from the 1911 building and hand painted by local artists will be on display from August 3rd – 25th at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery (300 Queen Elizabeth Ave, Manteo NC)
Tuesday, August 14th
4pm: Mirlo Rescue Exhibit & Reception
Descendants gather to point out and talk about artifacts on display followed by a private reception. Artifacts on display through August at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum (59200 Museum Dr. Hatteras NC)
Wednesday, August 15th
10am - 5pm: Guided Tours
Guided tours of the historic Hatteras Island will be available throughout the day and a hospitality station will be open at the Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo Community Building. (23645 NC Hwy 12, Rodanthe NC)

10am - 5pm: Centennial Celebration of 100th Anniversary of the Mirlo Rescue
