The Ocracoke passenger ferry has been a hit! Over 5,200 passenger have been carried between Hatteras Island and Ocracoke since its first run on May 20th.
Currently, the ferry runs three trips per day from both Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. With the current schedule, passengers have commented that the return time of 7pm is too early to depart from Ocracoke due to visitors wanting to have time to dine out in Ocracoke. The NC Ferry Division have listened to passenger feedback and decided to alter the schedule back by 1 hour.
Starting June 16th the ferry will now depart Hatteras Island at 9:30am, 1pm, and 4:30pm, with departures from Silver Lake in Ocracoke at 11am, 3pm, and 8pm.
The cost of taking the passenger ferry will remain $1 each trip (total of $2 round-trip) until June 30th. Starting July 1 the cost of a round trip will increase to $4.
Reservations for the passenger ferry can be made by calling 1-800-293-3779 or online at www.ncferry.org and clicking on "Online Reservations". Walk-up reservations are also accepted as long as space is available. Travel time is 70 mins.
As a reminder to guests traveling to Ocracoke, a FREE tram service, provided by Hyde County, is available to carry passengers through Ocracoke Village. Visitors are also able to walk, bike, or golf cart around the village. Various locations around Ocracoke offer bike and golf cart rentals. Passengers are also welcome to bring bikes onto the passenger ferry, as space allows.
