Exciting things are happening for the ferry system this year!
Beginning Summer 2018 a brand new passenger ferry will be running trips between Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island. The new ferry will take passengers right into Silver Lake in the heart of Ocracoke Village. Visitors will be able to easily walk, bike, or golf cart around the village to see all their favorite shops, restaurants, and local hot spots. The passenger ferry will help with long waits for the ferry, limited parking on Ocracoke, and will be a faster trip!
How much does the passenger ferry cost?
$15/per passenger. This includes a round-trip ticket and free access to the Ocracoke tram on the island.
Do I need to make a reservation for the passenger ferry?
Yes. Passengers will need to make reservations for the ferry and can be done online. The NC Ferry Division is currently working on these details.
Where do I park?
A new parking lot will be added near the Hatteras Ferry Docks for visitors to park their vehicles and walk onto the ferry.
How will I get around the island?
A tram service will be set up along with the new passenger ferry. Passengers are welcome to take the tram, rent bikes or golf carts, or walk to their destinations.
Can I bring my bike on the passenger ferry?
Yes. The ferry will have bike racks available for those wishing to bring their own bikes to the island. Ocracoke also has bikes and golf carts for rent.
Can I still take my car to Ocracoke?
Yes. The regular ferry will also run allowing residents and visitors to bring their cars to the island.
As more details are confirmed for the new passenger ferry, we will be sharing them on our Facebook page.
